Legendary 12-time Grand Slam singles champion, Billie Jean King, shared her perspective on female athletes` demands for increased prize money.
“Athletes often claim they deserve more and are worthy of it,” King stated. “To that, I respond with a question: `Did you earn that money this year? If not, on what basis do you believe you are entitled to more?`”
According to King, it`s crucial for athletes to understand the business aspect of their industry. “When people ask me what to do, I advise: `Study the business you are involved in`,” she explained in an interview with The Telegraph. “If the organization`s budget doesn`t add up, where do you think your prize money will go? Right back into the budget. That`s what truly understanding business processes means.”
