Aryna Sabalenka on Keeping Emotions in Check After Wimbledon Defeat: “Didn’t Want to Be That Crazy One”

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus spoke about her reaction following her defeat in the Wimbledon semifinals. She lost to Amanda Anisimova with a score of 4/6, 6/4, 4/6.

During the post-match press conference, journalists reminded Sabalenka of her previous comments about managing her emotions at Roland Garros. Throughout the Wimbledon tournament, Sabalenka had stated that she had learned from her past behavior in France.

“I just didn`t want to face the hate again! Of course, we can all lose control of our emotions, it`s normal,” Sabalenka said. “Whenever I was close to a breaking point today, wanting to start yelling and smashing rackets, I just kept telling myself that I couldn`t, that it wouldn`t help me stay in the game and fight for my dream.”

“I even waited a bit longer now to do the press conference. I just want to be Aryna, not that crazy one from Roland Garros.”
