Anthony Edwards receives throwback SuperSonics jersey from Gary Payton

Minnesota Timberwolves standout Anthony Edwards delivered a memorable performance on Monday against the Golden State Warriors, tallying 30 points and five assists.

Following the Timberwolves` 117-110 win, which secured a crucial 3-1 lead in the Western Conference semifinals, Anthony Edwards heard MVP chants from the crowd as he exited the court at Chase Center.

After the game, Edwards had a notable interaction with NBA legend and former Seattle SuperSonics point guard Gary Payton. Their meeting concluded with Payton gifting Edwards a signed throwback SuperSonics jersey.

Edwards shared his perspective on meeting Payton, stating, “I went up to him because of course I hear all the stuff about him, and then I go watch film on him and he was really like that. I told him like, `man I`m a big fan and I love the way you guarded man.` And even offensively, he had a lot of game.”

Edwards also paid a compliment to Payton`s son, Warriors guard Gary Payton II, noting similarities in their defensive styles. “His son kind of plays defense similar to him,” Edwards observed. “His son [is] super handsy [and] physical.”

Throughout the current Western Conference semifinals series, Edwards has maintained strong averages, posting 27.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and four assists per game.

His 30-point contribution in Game 4 marked the 13th time in his postseason career he has reached the 30-point threshold, according to ESPN Research.
