Former Russian doubles world No. 1 and two-time mixed doubles Grand Slam champion Andrey Olkhovsky commented on the situation with Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev dropping out of the ATP top 10 world ranking following the tournament in Madrid.
For the first time since June 2019, there will be no Russian representatives among the top 10 players in the world.
Olkhovsky believes that their return to the elite is quite realistic. According to him, Daniil Medvedev is currently close to the top 10, and a successful performance in just one or two upcoming tournaments could quickly bring him back into the group.
Regarding Andrey Rublev, Olkhovsky noted that he lost a significant number of ranking points by not defending his Monte Carlo Masters title from last year. As a result, Rublev now needs to regain his form and collect victories again to climb back up.
Olkhovsky expressed confidence that at least one of the two Russian tennis players will be able to return to the top 10 in the foreseeable future.
