World No. 39 Anastasia Potapova commented on her victory over Ashlyn Krueger in the first round of the Madrid tournament, winning 6/7(7), 6/4, 6/2.
– The match didn`t start off going your way. It turned into a comeback victory. How did you manage to break your opponent?
– I think I managed to break her down by employing the right tactics, and of course, through willpower and a desire not to give up. Basically, sticking to the plan we discussed with my team before the match, which really worked throughout the entire match, especially on return.
– Did Ashlyn Krueger surprise you in any way? You hadn`t played her before.
– No, I hadn`t played her, but I watched many of her matches. She`s actually been talked about quite a bit recently. She probably didn`t surprise me with anything, because, in principle, everything was expected. That she would serve well and powerfully, especially with her height. That she would hit hard – that was also expected. That she wouldn`t like long rallies. So, overall, she didn`t surprise me with anything, but I must give her credit. I think with her physique and game, she has every chance to break into the Top 10. I wish her that, – Potapova said in an interview with `Chempionat`.
