Anastasia Myskina: “I Love My Country and Couldn’t Change Citizenship”

Anastasia Myskina, the 2004 French Open singles champion and former world number two, has expressed her opinion on tennis players changing citizenship.

“Of course, it`s every athlete`s personal decision. I can only speak for myself: we were all offered it at some point, it was a novelty back then, but I don`t know. I love my country. Speaking for myself, I wouldn`t be able to do that,” Myskina said on Sputnik Belarus.

Myskina`s comments come after reports that Russian tennis player Daria Kasatkina announced a change of sporting citizenship. It was mentioned she would now represent Australia and had already played in a tournament in Charleston (USA) under a new flag.
