Following his quarterfinal exit from Roland Garros after a match against Jannik Sinner which ended 1/6, 5/7, 0/6, Kazakhstani player Alexander Bublik shared his perspective on the challenging encounter and Sinner`s current form.
When asked about the difficulty of facing Sinner, especially considering the Italian reached the semi-finals without dropping a set, Bublik admitted it was incredibly tough. “Yes, of course, difficult is not the word. He plays fast, he plays smart. He finishes almost every match in less than two hours, so physically he`s on a cosmic level. Everyone sees it, and I`m not the only one who got a bagel from him,” Bublik stated, acknowledging Sinner`s dominant performance.
He wished Sinner well, adding, “I wish him luck, he deserves to be where he is. We are all waiting for the final that everyone wants to see.”
Reflecting on his own performance during the clay season, Bublik was questioned if anything surprised him. He explained a change in his approach. “As I`ve said many times, I just changed my approach to the game. I came to the clay season without special expectations, but at the same time with ambitions. I wasn`t going to lose in the first round.”
He summarized his results positively: “How many tournaments did I play? I think six. This is definitely my best clay season. Plus, it had a good impact on my ranking – I returned to the Top 50, where I think my place is. And I believe this is just the beginning to try to climb back, maybe into the Top 20.”
Regarding playing Sinner on different surfaces, Bublik commented, “Honestly, I don`t remember all the details anymore. We played on grass in Halle a couple of years ago, and we first met, I think, in Dubai or Miami in the quarterfinals in 2021. Since then, he has improved significantly and reached great heights in his career.”
Concluding his thoughts on Sinner, Bublik affirmed, “Yes, he deserves to be the world number one,” highlighting the respect he has for his opponent`s achievements.
