Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Critical of Barcelona Court Condition

World No. 30 Spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina expressed significant dissatisfaction with the condition of the clay courts at the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona.

During his quarterfinal match against Russian Karen Khachanov, the Spaniard commented that the court surface resembled that of Marrakech, a city where he believes there is usually an excessive amount of clay.

Davidovich Fokina contrasted the Barcelona courts with those in Monte Carlo, stating, “In Monte Carlo, all the courts were clean and didn`t have those mini-mountains of clay. This year they put more soil than usual, and it`s noticeable. It was an important and tense moment in the match. Neither the players nor the club have anything to do with this.” He highlighted that the increased soil was evident and became particularly bothersome during a crucial phase of the match.
